On Friday, 26 June 2026, the Malawi Defence Force Health Services (MDFHS) concluded its inaugural Senior Non-Commissioned Officers (SNCOs) Leadership Study Week at Kamuzu Barracks, Lilongwe. The seminar gathered 28 SNCOs to enhance leadership, discipline, and professional skills.
Addressing the participants at the closing ceremony, Col (Dr) Geoffrey Ndekha, MDFHS Commandant, commended their dedication and urged them to put their leadership skills into practice. He emphasized that leadership, discipline, and professionalism are the foundation of military service and underscored MDFHS’s commitment to continuous learning. He reminded the SNCOs to lead by example, mentor junior service members, and uphold military professionalism. He also thanked the sponsors, Akatswiri Mineral Resource and Maziko Car Hire & General Dealers, for their morale-boosting support.
Lt Col Andrew Makuru, Head of Training, commended the facilitators and highlighted the seminar’s role in reflecting on military values and challenges. He encouraged the participants to embody the lessons learned and strengthen discipline, teamwork, and operational effectiveness.
Speaking on behalf of the other participants, Warrant Officer Class I Scazio Lunda thanked MDFHS leadership and sponsors for the professional growth opportunity. Outstanding participant Sgt Flora Mlakata expressed gratitude to facilitators and sponsors, noting the lessons will improve duty performance.
Facilitators came from the 94 Brigade, Education Corps, and Second Battalion of the Malawi Army. This study week marks the beginning of an important annual leadership development initiative within MDFHS.
