KAMUZU BARRACKS TRIUMPHS AT INTER-SECURITY AGENCIES SPORTS FESTIVAL

Kamuzu Barracks in Lilongwe hosted the Inter-Security Agencies Sports Festival on 26 June 2026. The event was organised to promote unity, teamwork, camaraderie, physical fitness, and healthy competition among uniformed personnel from the Malawi Defence Force (MDF), Malawi Police Service (MPS), Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services, and Malawi Prison Service (MPS).

Several sporting disciplines were showcased during the event, including football, netball, volleyball, pool, darts, and tug of war.

In the tug of war, Kamuzu Barracks’ 2 Malawi Rifles (2MR) dominated both men’s and women’s categories, defeating a combined Police and Prison Service team. Blue Eagles won netball, narrowly beating Kamuzu Barracks 38–34.

The football competition provided some of the most exciting moments of the festival. Kamuzu Barracks reached the final by beating Blue Eagles 5–3 on penalties, while Immigration defeated Prison Service 2–0.

In the grand final, Immigration struck first with an early goal, setting the tone for a spirited contest. Kamuzu Barracks responded with resilience, as Corporal Mikonje rose above the defence to deliver a spectacular header that brought the match level. After halftime, Immigration regained the lead, but Kamuzu Barracks refused to yield, equalizing swiftly through Corporal Harvey Mkacha.

With the score locked at 2–2 at full time, the contest was decided on penalties. In that decisive moment, Kamuzu Barracks held their nerve, triumphing 5–3 in the shootout to claim the football title.

The festival concluded with a social gathering at the Corporal’s Mess featuring a braai, refreshments, and entertainment by the MDF Dance Band.
