After months of anticipation, the Malawi Defence Force’s Memorable Order of the Tin Hats (MOTH) Club officially re-opened its doors on 2 August 2025, following extensive renovations.
Officiating the ceremony, the Chief of Defence Forces and Patron of the Club, General Paul Valentino Phiri, MSM psc ndc PhD, reminded members of the club’s three guiding pillars—discipline, respect, and care. He urged members to safeguard the facility, uphold discipline, and respect one another at all times.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Brigadier General Kuwali, LLD fawc, thanked the Patron for the support rendered towards the event. The Chairman of the Veterans and Ex-Service Members League of Malawi (VELOM), Retired General Henry Odillo, also expressed gratitude to the Patron, sponsors, and the organizing committee for making the ceremony a success. He further applauded the raffle draw initiative, noting that its proceeds would greatly enhance the welfare of war veterans.
Located in CI, Blantyre, the upgraded club now boasts a modern and welcoming ambiance, with a redesigned counter and bar, new seating, large high-definition sports screens, and a modern swimming pool.
The event drew an impressive audience, including the Principal Secretary of Defence, Mr. James Chiusiwa; the Deputy Chief of Defence Forces, Lieutenant General George Jaffu (Jr), MSM psc; General Officers and Commanding Officers of the MDF; legal practitioners; business leaders; and representatives of war veterans.
Adding excitement to the day was a raffle draw. NICO Holdings co-sponsored the event. Friends and members of the MOTH Club also contributed generously towards the welfare of veterans. Winners walked away with various prizes, including full membership to all MDF messes and a chance to showcase their firing skills, while guests enjoyed complimentary drinks, snacks, and live entertainment from the Malawi Defence Force Brass and Dance Bands.
