The Malawi Defence Force (MDF) has reaffirmed its commitment to international peace, security and defence cooperation through its participation in the inaugural Africa International Defence Exhibition (AFRIDEX) 2026, held in Lagos, Nigeria.
The MDF delegation was led by Major General Richard Chagonapanja, Joint Chief of Staff, who represented the Chief of Defence Force, General George Alexander Jaffu, Jnr.
A key highlight of AFRIDEX 2026 was a high-level panel discussion titled “Peacekeeping Under Pressure: What Needs to Change.” As one of three panelists, Major General Chagonapanja joined regional and international experts in examining how peacekeeping operations can better respond to evolving security threats, improve mandates and resource mobilisation, and strengthen coordination among African-led peace support missions.
The discussion highlighted key challenges and opportunities shaping contemporary peacekeeping operations, with participants sharing perspectives on strengthening the effectiveness of African-led peace support missions. It also underscored the importance of enhanced cooperation among the African Union, regional organisations and international partners in promoting sustainable peace and security across the continent.
Through its participation, the MDF exchanged operational experiences and best practices with defence and security stakeholders from across Africa, contributing to ongoing efforts to strengthen regional and continental approaches to peace and security.
