The Malawi Army's 94 Brigade, on Saturday, 27th June, hosted the 2026 Malawi–Zambia Military Brigades Sports Festival, welcoming the Eastern Formation Brigade of the Zambia Defence Force to Lilongwe.
Held at CIVO Stadium, the annual festival aimed at promoting camaraderie, teamwork, physical fitness, and cooperation between military personnel from the two countries.
Teams competed in football, basketball, volleyball, and netball.
Speaking during the official opening of the games on behalf of General George Alexander Jaffu (Jr), Chief of Defence, Malawi Defence Force, Brigadier General Faustino Gunda Phiri, Commander 94 Brigade, welcomed the visiting team and wished them a happy stay throughout the time they would be in Malawi. He also wished all participating teams the best of luck and encouraged them to uphold the spirit of fair play.
At the end of the games, 94 Brigade won in basketball, netball, and volleyball, while the Eastern Formation Brigade claimed victory in football.
The visit follows a similar visit by the 94 Brigade to Zambia in 2025. The Malawi-Zambia Military Brigade Sports Festival is part of the resolutions of the Malawi-Zambia Joint Permanent Commission on Defence and Security (JPCDS) and is an excellent opportunity for military personnel from the two countries to engage in friendly competition while enhancing bilateral relations.
