Lilongwe Air Base (LAB) hosted a Family Open Day on Saturday, 26th August, under the theme "Fun for Today, Inspiration for Tomorrow."
The event drew hundreds of military families and civilians from across Lilongwe for a rare glimpse into life at the Malawi Air Force's Lilongwe base.
The day-long showcase featured military demonstrations, games, car pulling, and static aircraft exhibits. Children enjoyed bouncy castles and face painting, while parents took in exhibitions and entertainment in a relaxed, family atmosphere. The Malawi Defence Force Brass Band and Dance Band also entertained guests throughout the day, adding music and colour to the festivities.
Speaking on behalf of the Base Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Kennedy Kambanizithe said the event was deliberately organised to promote unity both within and beyond the military community.
"The aim is to strengthen family bonds whilst promoting military oneness, encouraging social networking among families, and giving the community a chance to appreciate the work of the Air Force," he said.
Lance Corporal Lemson Kananji, a Regimental Police officer, commended management for organising the event, saying it has drawn the community closer to the base and enhanced public understanding of the Air Force's work.
The event received sponsorship from MASM, Msilikali SACCO, MwaiTech, ChakuP Investment, Mr and Mrs. Jones, Prime Time Limited Company, Interserv, Bensom Entertainment, Nation Publications Limited, Fly Nyasa, and Fly Tech.
