The Malawi Defence Force (MDF) Command and Staff College has announced its readiness to spearhead the Combined Joint African Exercise (CJAX) in 2026, following a successful handover from the South African War College, which coordinated this year’s exercise.
The announcement was made by the Commandant of the MDF Command and Staff College, Brigadier General Desmond Chawanda,psc,ndc during the closing ceremony of a week-long exercise codenamed UHURU, held at the college in Salima.
In his remarks, Brigadier General Chawanda described the just-ended exercise as a success, highlighting the impressive performance of the Malawian team during the presentation of its concept of operations to seven other Southern African Development Community (SADC) member states that participated this year.
“The college is very ready because our task is to ensure that all the meetings leading up to the exercise are conducted on time,” he said.
Apart from Malawi, the participating countries included South Africa, Angola, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mozambique, Tanzania, Namibia, and Botswana.
